Welcome

Message from the President of the Society of Toxicology of Canada

Dear friends and colleagues,

On behalf of the Society of Toxicology of Canada (STC), it is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend the Eleventh International Congress of Toxicology to be held in Montréal, Québec, Canada. STC is proud to be the host, under the auspices of the International Union of Toxicology, of this exciting meeting celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the International Congress of Toxicology which was first held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1977.

STC is a dynamic society gathering toxicologists from academia, government and industry across Canada. Its Annual Symposium in December is characterized by high quality scientific content in a spirit of fraternity. This atmosphere will be present during ICT XI as Canadian toxicologists look forward to the opportunity of interacting and networking with colleagues from all over the world interested by toxicology and public health. The program, venue and people, from the organizers and presenters to the inhabitants of Montréal, will ensure that ICT XI will be scientifically rewarding and personally memorable for delegates and their families.

The theme of the ICT XI meeting - " Toxicology: Discovery Serving Society " - is intended to emphasize the role of science and, in particular, of toxicology as a force for the betterment of society. While we can only anticipate the challenges to be faced in the early years of the 21st century, we do know that science-based decision making will be key to the successful management of those challenges. The discipline of toxicology is becoming a critical tool for making the best decisions on the quality and safety of our air, water, food, medicines and consumer products. We hope that exchanges among participants at this conference will foster such outcomes.

STC is looking forward to welcoming the international scientific community to one of the most active cities in North America. We anticipate that the meeting will mirror the host city, Montréal, in its dynamic and international diversity, culture, liveliness and spirit. The location of the Palais des congrès, an international-class convention centre, will allow participants easy access to the lively downtown area of Montréal. We also invite you to travel to other parts of Québec and Canada to see the natural beauty and to feel the warmth of its people.

STC invites interested toxicologists to become members of the Society (www.stcweb.ca). The many STC members that have actively and enthusiastically participated in the development of the meeting to make it a success illustrate the vibrancy of STC.

In closing, I urge you to join us in Montréal, July 15 to 19, 2007 for a meeting that will be truly memorable!

Michel Charbonneau, Ph.D.
President, Society of Toxicology of Canada
