Message from the President of the
International Union of Toxicology
Fellow Toxicologists:
On behalf of the International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX), its 47 member Societies and 7 institutional members, it is a great
honour to invite you to attend the Eleventh International Congress of
Toxicology (ICT XI). Traditionally, the ICT has provided toxicologists
with an opportunity to highlight their scientific advances and their
interdisciplinary interaction among the various branches of toxicology.
The program for ICT XI will continue in this tradition.
ICT XI will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the birth of the
International Congress of Toxicology, the initial ICT having been held
in Toronto in 1977. Hosted by the Society of Toxicology of Canada
(STC), the first ICT congress was also the venue where a committee
was charged with “preparing the statutes for the founding of IUTOX”,
thus taking the final steps needed to form the International Union of
Toxicology, an idea that was first put forward by William D. Deichmann
in 1968. Thus, ICT XI in Montreal will not only be an outstanding
scientific meeting, but it will also be a congress held at a date that has
historical meaning for the ICT, the IUTOX and the STC.
ICT XI will surely be a memorable event for all participants; first and
foremost because of its outstanding scientific program, but also
because of the exceptional location of the meeting and the numerous
social activities that will be complemented by Canada’s warm
hospitality.
Prof. Dr. Ali Esat Karakaya
President, IUTOX
